Harold Crick is an auditor for the Internal Revenue Service who lives in Chicago with a meticulously precise routine. Every morning his watch alarm wakes him, he eats alone, counts the steps to his office and brushes his teeth the same number of times every time. His job assigns him to review the tax returns of Ana Pascal, a baker who deliberately doesn't pay her taxes. One day he begins to hear a female voice describing each of his actions as he performs them, as if he were a character in a novel. Harold can't figure out where the voice is coming from or why it follows him everywhere, and his orderly life begins to fall apart. The film is directed by Marc Forster, and Will Ferrell stars as the lead.

Trivia about Stranger Than Fiction

Zach Helm and Lindsay Doran were working on a project they called The Disassociate in 2001, before shaping the idea that would become the film.
Zach Helm named the main characters after scientists and artists who were influential in science, such as Crick, Pascal, Eiffel, Escher and David Hilbert.
The soundtrack includes an original recording of "Whole Wide World" by Wreckless Eric, the song Harold plays for Ana.
The film cost 30 million dollars to make and grossed 53.7 million worldwide, of which 40.7 million came from the United States.
