Synopsis of Dexter: New Blood

Ten years after faking his death during a hurricane, Dexter Morgan is living in Iron Lake, a small fictional town in upstate New York. There he goes by the name Jim Lindsay and works at an outdoor sporting goods store. His relationship with Angela Bishop, the local police chief, helps him maintain a quiet life, and he keeps suppressing the serial-killer urges he acts out as a vigilante. His late sister, Debra, remains present as an imaginary figure he talks to. Calm is shattered when Harrison, the estranged son from his past life, shows up unannounced with mysterious motives. A chain of incidents in town leads Dexter to fear that his Dark Passenger will come to light, and also within his son. The miniseries, created by Clyde Phillips for Showtime, brings back the character played by Michael C. Hall.

Trivia about Dexter: New Blood

Most of the series was shot in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts, which stood in for Iron Lake, and the crew had to coordinate outdoor scenes around the weather to get snow.

Clyde Phillips said filming for the series took 119 days, while the interiors at New England Studios were shot over a period of fifty days.

Rotten Tomatoes recorded a 77% approval rating based on 56 reviews, with an average score of 7.20/10.

Michael C. Hall received TVLine's Performer of the Week award for the final episode, for a week ending January 15, 2022.

It was announced in July 2021 that Jennifer Carpenter would return to the role of Debra in some capacity for the miniseries.

The prequel Dexter: Original Sin was ordered directly as a series and premiered on Showtime on December 13, 2024.

The series finale of "Dexter: New Blood" was the most-watched single episode in Showtime's history, according to Clyde Phillips, although its ending sparked a strong backlash online.

Actress Sequoyah said her audition went so poorly that the casting director stopped her mid-scene to tell her she was playing the character with a darkness that didn't fit; even so, she landed the role.
