Synopsis of Reaper

Sam Oliver lives with his parents in the Seattle area. He dropped out of school and works a dead-end job at Work Bench, a home-repair superstore, where he spends his time between video games and sighing over his coworker Andi. Sam has always wondered why his parents are so generous with him and so hard on his brother. When he turns 21, his parents begin acting strangely, and he starts having hellish visions and experiencing inexplicable events. Finally, his father confesses that years ago he fell gravely ill and that, in exchange for his recovery, he and his wife promised the family's firstborn to the Devil, played by Ray Wise. Created by Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas, the series airs on The CW.

Trivia about Reaper

Sam's brother, who was originally named Keith, was renamed Kyle and left the series after two episodes.

Nikki Reed, co-writer of Thirteen, was cast to play Andi in March 2007, but ended up being replaced by Missy Peregrym.

The CW gave the series a advance order of 13 episodes on May 15, 2007, ahead of its television premiere.

The network ordered three additional episodes, citing strong audience retention between Reaper and Beauty and the Geek.

In late February 2008, the series moved to Thursdays, right after Smallville.

The official website of Reaper confirmed there would be no third season, but there would be a comic and possibly an animated series.

Ray Wise landed the role of the Devil after casting directors had seen more than one hundred actors, including some who had already played the character in other productions.

The Writers Guild of America strike of 2007 halted production of the first season and contributed to The CW canceling the series in 2009.
