Megan West was born in Houston and trained at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. She wasn't chasing fame fast. She wanted to understand the craft from the technical foundation up and the discipline of the stage before trying her luck in front of the cameras of the commercial industry.
In 2013, she landed her first professional role on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. The appearance was brief, but it put her on the radar of casting directors working on the East Coast. The real learning, however, came from the daily grind of auditions in Manhattan.
The road wasn't exactly a red carpet.
Edward Burns cast her to play Claire in the series Public Morals in 2015. That police drama set in the 60s required a restrained performance, which West delivered without showboating. That ability to avoid overacting caught the attention of major national networks looking for fresh faces for their prime-time slots.
In 2016, she appeared in How to Get Away with Murder. She played Sasha in a storyline that required her to keep the dramatic tension up in scenes shared with stars of the caliber of Viola Davis. West understands that in modern television, silence sometimes communicates more than the dialogue written in the script.
Her arrival on This Is Us in 2017 marked a shift in her public profile. On the NBC series she brought Heather to life. It was a supporting role in terms of screen time, but it drew a massive emotional response from the show's fans. That job showed she could carry complex story arcs without relying on big theatrics.
And the gamble paid off.
The actress joined the cast of 9-11 in 2020 to play reporter Taylor Kelly. Her character started as a purely functional presence and ended up as a key part of the personal growth of the lead, Evan Buckley. In 2021, her contract was expanded to reflect how important her role was to the main storyline in seasons four and five.
In 2023, she joined the cast of the action film Boy Kills World. She shared the set with Bill Skarsgård in a visually aggressive production that was a total departure from her previous work in family drama or procedural suspense. The film had a budget of $18 million and required the actress to undergo specific physical training for the stunt sequences.
In 2024, she shot the feature film The Teacher.
Directed by Daniella De Carlo, this project places West in a psychological thriller where the story hinges on the ambiguity of the characters. Filming took place on location in New Jersey under strict privacy protocols to protect the details of the film's ending.
The international distribution deal for this latest project was closed for a figure approaching seven digits in the independent film market.
