Synopsis of Constantine

With a soul condemned to hell, John Constantine, an irreverent exorcist and occult detective, tries to leave his past behind. When demons target Liv, the daughter of an old friend, he vows to protect her no matter what. Armed with deep knowledge of the dark arts and a brazen wit, he discovers that the young woman has second sight, the ability to perceive the world hidden behind ours and to anticipate supernatural events. That ability makes her a threat to a mysterious evil that is emerging. Starring Matt Ryan, the series, created by Daniel Cerone, airs on NBC and travels across the United States as Constantine searches for ways to fight these threats.

Trivia about Constantine

The character's chain-smoking was toned down on screen due to broadcast television restrictions, although the network ended up being more lenient with it.

The pilot episode, "Non Est Asylum," drew 2.90 million viewers thanks to DVR recording, reaching a total of 7.14 million.

NBC president Jennifer Salke regretted that the series didn't perform better live and highlighted that it had a large, younger time-shifted audience.

NBC Entertainment president Robert Greenblatt admitted that the network had jumped on the comic book bandwagon and that there were perhaps too many of them.

After NBC decided not to renew it, Warner Bros. Television tried to get another network to pick up the series, but those efforts did not succeed.

In August 2015, it was confirmed that Matt Ryan would appear in the episode "Haunted" of Arrow's fourth season, as his character Constantine.

DC Entertainment released John Constantine: Noir, a clay stop-motion animated web series developed by Cool Town Creations to support the campaign for a second season.

The phone number on Constantine's business card, (404) 248-7182, was working and played a voicemail from the character; the 404 area code belonged to Atlanta, where the series was filmed and set.
