Synopsis of Stargate Atlantis

Stargate Atlantis begins when a team of scientists discovers an outpost of the Ancients in Antarctica. Dr. Daniel Jackson learns that the lost city of Atlantis was moved to the Pegasus galaxy and, together with Dr. Elizabeth Weir, organizes a military-scientific expedition ready to travel there. The journey consumes enormous amounts of energy and might be a one-way trip. In Pegasus, the expedition members find that dozens of teams are exploring distant planets, and that their greatest danger is the Wraith, beings that feed on the life energy of humans. Major John Sheppard, leading a military team, must protect the city while searching for a way to face this threat. Joe Flanigan leads the cast, and Robert C. Cooper and Brad Wright created the series, which airs on Syfy.

Trivia about Stargate Atlantis

Rachel Luttrell used the break after the first season to train in martial arts with science fiction veteran Ray Park, who prepared her for her role as Teyla.

The main theme, composed by Joel Goldsmith, was nominated for the 2005 Primetime Emmy in the Outstanding Main Title Theme Music category.

The producers couldn't find an actor for Dr. Ingram and realized they had chosen the wrong character. David Hewlett arrived on set the day after filming began.

Finding the actor for Ronon Dex wasn't easy until the producers saw the tape of Jason Momoa.

The pilot episode, "Rising," was the most-watched in Sci Fi Channel history, with more than four million viewers in the United States.

Pemberton Glacier stood in for Antarctica in the opening flight sequence of the series premiere, "Rising."

The effects set for Blade: Trinity was moved to Stargate Atlantis because dismantling it would have cost too much.

The fifth season was announced as the last in 2008; producer Joe Mallozzi blamed the cancellation on rising production costs and the drop of the U.S. dollar after 100 episodes aired.
