Synopsis of The Haunting of Bly Manor

Dani is a young American woman who travels to England to work as a governess at Bly estate, a country manor house. She has been hired by Henry Wingrave, an uncle estranged from the two children she will have to look after, Miles and Flora. As soon as she settles in, the protagonist starts seeing apparitions that haunt the property. The series explores how Dani tries to hold on in a place where the supernatural becomes harder and harder to ignore, while she tries to protect the children. Created by Mike Flanagan for Netflix, the drama stars Victoria Pedretti, with Oliver Jackson-Cohen and Henry Thomas in prominent roles.

Trivia about The Haunting of Bly Manor

Production began on September 30, 2019, and filming took place in Vancouver, Canada, according to the series' production data.

Filming wrapped on February 21, 2020, less than a month before the COVID-19 pandemic brought much of North America to a standstill.

The series doesn't only adapt Henry James’s The Turn of the Screw, but also stories such as “Gardener’s Pain” and “The Jolly Corner.”

The series received a nomination at the 73th Primetime Emmy Awards in the category of Outstanding Sound Editing for a Limited or Anthology Series.

Pedretti won the award for Scariest Performance at the 2021 MTV Movie & TV Awards, one of the honors the series received.

T’Nia Miller didn't know when she accepted the role that Hannah Grose was dead from the start; to prepare the character, she wrote a timeline of her journey with Mike Flanagan and the writing team.

A stunt double filmed the first part of Hannah's fall down the well, but T’Nia Miller personally performed the final stretch that appears on screen.

Mike Flanagan directed the pilot episode, while Irish directors Ciarán Foy and Liam Gavin joined to direct other episodes of the series.
