If there's anyone who's had us glued to the screen with our hearts in our throats in recent times, it's Victoria Pedretti. She's not your typical Hollywood star chasing easy applause in rom-coms. Instead, she's built a career on broken, complex and, let's be honest, slightly unsettling characters. Ever since she made her Netflix debut, it was clear she's never one to fade into the background, because she has that innate ability to hold your gaze and convey all the world's pain without saying a word.
Her breakout was one for the history books, thanks to Mike Flanagan, who cast her as Nell Crain in The Haunting of Hill House. There, she broke all our hearts and, although she later reunited with the director for Bly Manor, it was clear the “Scream Queen” label would soon feel too small for her. What's great about Victoria is that she refuses to play it safe, so she went from gothic ghosts to suburban psychos without missing a beat.
The full turning point came when she crossed paths with Joe Goldberg in You. Playing Love Quinn could have been just another "girlfriend of" role, but she turned her into a whirlwind who completely upstaged the lead in every scene they shared. She made us empathize with an impulsive killer by giving her a humanity and vulnerability that were almost frightening, proving she moves like a fish in water in that gray area where morality is nowhere to be found.
That stage cemented her as one of the most magnetic actresses of her generation, but rather than coasting on television, Victoria has known how to make her moves into film with far more substantial projects. We saw her working under Tarantino in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and although it was a brief role, she left a mark as part of the Manson “family,” confirming that she's all about characters who live on the edge.
Lately, we've seen her step away from more commercial spotlights to dive into independent film and stories that really have something to say. Her role in Ponyboi was a real knockout punch, exploring far rawer territory than the psychological suspense we're used to from her. You can tell she's drawn to bold scripts over empty blockbusters, and her fans really appreciate that.
Add to that her role in Origin, by Ava DuVernay, where she once again showed a special sensitivity for socially charged dramas. Victoria doesn't just act; she seems to blend into her surroundings, whether in a period drama or a contemporary thriller. She's at a sweet spot in her career where she can choose which stories she wants to inhabit, and everything points to the best still being ahead.
With confirmed projects such as The Book of Ruth and her ongoing commitment to theater, it's clear we've got Pedretti around for the long haul. She's not one to burn out by showing up at every Instagram party; instead, she lets her work speak for itself, keeping that air of mystery that suits her so well. She's a true actress, the kind who gets her hands dirty and isn't afraid to look ugly or desperate when the script demands it, which is exactly why she's become one of our undisputed favorites.
