William Bradley Pitt arrived in Los Angeles with 325 dollars in his pocket. Before anyone knew his name, he spent months dressed as a giant chicken to promote a fast-food chain on Sunset Boulevard. It was his first real contact with the entertainment industry.
In 1991 he needed only seven minutes on screen for Hollywood to forget the chicken costume. His role as J.D. in Thelma & Louise worked as a showcase for physical magnetism that nearly condemned him to being a fast-selling product. But Pitt had other plans for his career.
He chose risk over comfort.
That's why he accepted Se7en in 1995. David Fincher gave him the chance to get his hands dirty and to end the film with a desperate scream that still echoes in editing rooms. That was the moment he decided that his career would not depend on his jawline.
During the nineties he took on projects that challenged his heartthrob image. He tore an Achilles tendon while filming Troy in 2004 and accepted a lower-than-usual salary to work with Terry Gilliam on 12 Monkeys. That decision earned him his first Oscar nomination.
In 2001, he founded Plan B Entertainment. What started as a small office became the structure that made it possible to finance stories that major studios had rejected as too complex. And the gamble paid off.
Under his banner, titles such as Moonlight and The Tree of Life were produced. Pitt understood early that the real power in Hollywood doesn't lie in appearing on the poster (although he did) but in owning the rights to the story.
He won his first Oscar as a producer in 2014 for 12 Years a Slave.
Still, recognition as an actor took longer than expected. It took Quentin Tarantino in 2019 with Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood for the Academy to hand him the statuette for playing a film stuntman who lives in a trailer. Cliff Booth reflected the maturity of an actor who no longer needed to force intensity.
In 2024 he teamed up with George Clooney again on Wolfs. The chemistry between the two remains a safe financial asset for streaming platforms looking for names capable of carrying a big-budget production. Because Pitt sells even when he chooses to step away from the spotlight.
His interest in architecture and sculpture has shaped how he chooses his film projects. He prefers productions that let him explore real physical spaces. So in 2025, he threw himself into filming a movie about Formula 1 directed by Joseph Kosinski.
For that project, the production developed special cameras that were installed inside the real race cars to capture the speed without digital tricks. The film's budget exceeded 300 million dollars before entering post-production.
