Synopsis of New Amsterdam

New Amsterdam is a medical drama series created by David Schulner and aired on NBC. Max Goodwin, played by Ryan Eggold, has just been named medical director of New Amsterdam Hospital, a public institution that is among the oldest in the United States. The hospital has very little funding and a bureaucracy that slows patient care. Max decides to take radical measures to provide exceptional care, with help from the rest of the team. Among the cases that come to the hospital are people infected with Ebola, prisoners and even the President of the United States. While dealing with the hospital's problems, Max also wants to win back his wife, who is pregnant.

Trivia about New Amsterdam

The series' hospital is fictional and is based on Bellevue Hospital in New York, which opened in 1736 and is the oldest in the country.

Through October 2018, Universal Television had paid US$665,000 to NYC Health + Hospitals to film in its hospitals.

In the UK, the first half of the first season arrived on Amazon Video on February 8, 2019.

In 2021, the series moved from Prime Video to the Sky Witness channel, where it premiered in July of that year.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the series has a 34% approval rating based on reviews from 32 critics.

NBC renewed «New Amsterdam» for a second season in February 2019, when it averaged 11.9 million viewers with seven-day delayed viewing.

NBC confirmed in March 2022 that the fifth season would be the last; with 13 episodes, it was the shortest season of the series.

The average audience dropped from more than 10 million viewers in the first season to just over five million in the last, a decline cited as a factor in the cancellation.
