Synopsis of Sense8

Eight strangers from different parts of the world begin to share visions and sensations that don't belong to them. Will is a Chicago cop, Capheus drives a matatu in Nairobi to pay for his mother's medication, Sun is the daughter of a powerful Seoul businessman, and Lito is an actor hiding his homosexuality in Mexico City. They soon discover they form a group of "sensates," people mentally and emotionally connected who can communicate, sense one another, and share languages and skills. While trying to go on with their daily lives, they want to understand why they are connected. They are pursued by the Biologically Engineered Organization, determined to neutralize them, along with Whispers, a high-ranking sensate within it. Created by the Wachowskis and J. Michael Straczynski, the series streams on Netflix.

Trivia about Sense8

Lana Wachowski came up with the title on the second day of creative sessions, as a play on the word "sensate" and the idea of eight lead characters.

Netflix ordered a first season of 10 episodes on March 27, 2013, but during filming it was expanded to 12.

According to producer Roberto Malerba, the first season cost an average of about $4.5 million per episode, and the second $9 million.

Ted Sarandos explained that the series was canceled because its audience, though very passionate, was not large enough to support the production costs.

The first season won a GLAAD Award for Outstanding Drama Series for its representation of LGBTQ characters and themes.

Lana Wachowski wrote Nomi Marks, in part, based on his own experiences.

Karin Winslow rented a car and drove through the eight countries of the first season to film the opening title sequence, with more than one hundred shots.

During filming, the crew logged 100,000 miles of flights, the equivalent of circling the globe four times.
