Synopsis of The Knick

In New York City in 1900, Knickerbocker Hospital, which everyone calls the Knick, brings together surgeons, nurses and staff who push against the limits of medical knowledge of the era. Its new chief of surgery is Dr. John Thackery, played by Clive Owen, a brilliant doctor whose ambition to discover new techniques clashes with his addiction to cocaine and opium. Working alongside him is Dr. Algernon Edwards, who hopes to make his way in an institution where his reputation depends on the opinion of his colleagues. Created by Jack Amiel and Michael Begler and aired on Cinemax, the series focuses on the professional and human relationships within a hospital trying to reduce patient mortality with methods that are still evolving.
