Anna Galvin trained at the Oxford School of Drama in the early nineties. That technical foundation let her move from Australia to the United Kingdom with remarkable confidence. In 1996 she appeared in the series The Genie from Down Under, and soon after she decided to move to Vancouver to try her luck in the North American market.
Vancouver was her home base for good.
There she became one of the most dependable faces in Canadian industry. In 2006 she joined the universe of Stargate SG-1 as Dr. Reya Varrick. But her connection to the franchise didn't end there. She returned in Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe with entirely different characters. Playing three different women in the same saga says a lot about her ability to blend into science fiction scripts.
Galvin has never sought the spotlight on the red carpet. She prefers the hard work on genre productions, where continuity is the real reward. In 2009 she joined the cast of Caprica and soon after appeared in Smallville. Her profile fits perfectly with the calm authority that television casting directors look for.
In 2016 she took on the challenge of bringing Draka to life in the film Warcraft. It was not a conventional role because it involved motion capture technology. Critics noted that her human performance came through the digital effects. Behind the orc's tusks was real gaze and physical weight work that took several months of post-production technical work.
Television has been her constant refuge for decades.
In 2017 she joined the cast of Once Upon a Time to bring Madeline de Vil to life. That role gave her global visibility among younger audiences who watch fantasy on streaming platforms. But Galvin has always preferred to keep a low profile away from the sets. In 2021 she filmed several episodes of Firefly Lane, playing Carol, and proved that family dramas also fit her range.
She rarely gives personal interviews or takes part in the celebrity circuit.
In 2023 she appeared in the series Family Law, playing Judge Vanessa de Sica in several episodes. Her work pace has not dropped below two projects a year since she started her career in the nineties. The industry sees her as a safe bet for authoritative characters or mothers with dark secrets. She has more than 100 official credits across episodic appearances and recurring roles on television.
