Synopsis of X-Men: Evolution

In Bayville, a small town in upstate New York, Professor Charles Xavier runs a school for gifted youngsters, where teenage mutants learn to control their powers. Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, and Wolverine teach them to keep their abilities hidden from the rest of society while they attend high school like any other student. Opposing them, Mystique leads the Brotherhood, a rival group competing to recruit the same boys and girls who have just discovered their abilities. While the X-Men preach restraint and responsibility, the Brotherhood encourages using their gifts for personal gain. Created by Robert N. Skir, Marty Isenberg, and David Wise, the series airs on The WB, and its premise is the struggle over every new recruit.

Trivia about X-Men: Evolution

During production, the working title was Children of the Atom, but the network dropped it because it did not want the name to suggest children.
The series won the award for Best Sound Mixing in the Special Category at the 28th Daytime Emmy Awards on May 18, 2001.
Mystique was supposed to appear nude, as in her film version, but Warner Bros. did not want that detail in a Kids' WB production.
It is the first X-Men animated series to use digital ink and paint in its production.
Buffy creator Joss Whedon openly acknowledged that Kitty Pryde was an inspiration for the character Buffy Summers.
The series ended after four seasons and 52 episodes; co-producer Robert N. Skir cautiously attributed the ending to changes Warner Bros. wanted to introduce and to corporate moves involving Nickelodeon in 2003.
The creative team behind X-Men: Evolution later went on to work on Wolverine and the X-Men, which premiered in 2009. The series didn't continue the storyline of the previous show and was canceled after 26 episodes due to production budget problems.
