Trivia about The L Word

In 2006, The L Word won the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Drama Series, and in 2009 it received a special honor from the same organization.
The band Betty wrote and performed the theme song, which is heard for the first time in the second season.
Although the story is set in Los Angeles, the series was filmed in Vancouver, Canada, at Coast Mountain Film Studios.
In the second season, Ossie Davis posthumously received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Melvin, father of Bette and Kit Porter.
Three of Leisha Hailey's bands appear in the series, and a song by The Murmurs was already heard in the first season.
The L Word was the first television series with an ensemble cast made up of lesbian and bisexual female characters.
During casting, some actresses turned down roles because they feared the potential multi-season commitment would hurt their film careers; filming took about nine months.
The series drew criticism for its lack of racial diversity and for casting cisgender woman Daniela Sea as Max, a transmasculine character; Ilene Chaiken later acknowledged that the casting was a mistake.
