Synopsis of FlashForward

On an ordinary day, nearly everyone on the planet loses consciousness at the same time for two minutes and seventeen seconds. While the blackout lasts, each person sees what appears to be their life about six months from now, up to April 29, 2010. Mark Benford, an FBI agent in Los Angeles played by Joseph Fiennes, leads a team trying to figure out what happened and why. To do so, he gathers visions from people around the world in an open online database called Mosaic Collective, hoping to find those who didn't black out. Mark must also confront what he has seen of his own future. The series, created by David S. Goyer and Brannon Braga based on the novel by Robert J. Sawyer, airs on ABC.

The series was first developed at HBO, which sold the option because it believed the show was a better fit for a free-to-air network.

The opening title of each episode hides an image within the FlashForward logo that reveals a glimpse of what the episode is about.

On Channel 4, the premiere reached a 14.3% audience share and 2 715 000 viewers, becoming the most-watched foreign drama in the network's history.

The series has been sold in more than 100 territories, and its broadcasts outside the United States often air almost simultaneously with the originals to curb piracy.

On average, each episode was watched by 8.5 million viewers, placing it at number 44 among the most-watched series of the season.

In 2015, Robert J. Sawyer made public the memo he sent to producers and writers on February 19, 2010 outlining his proposal for the second season.

ABC canceled the series in May 2010 after a ratings decline: it dropped from 12.47 million viewers at the premiere to roughly 4.77 million in one of its final episodes.

Production was temporarily halted in November 2009 to strengthen the writing, shortly after Marc Guggenheim left his role as executive producer and showrunner.
