Synopsis of Kung Fu

Today, Nicky Shen, a young Chinese American woman, drops out of college after a series of personal problems. She decides to embark on a life-changing journey to an isolated monastery in China. When she returns to the United States three years later, she settles in San Francisco, her hometown, and discovers that crime and corruption, led by the Triad, are suffocating her community. She then begins to use her martial arts skills and the values of Shaolin to protect it. All the while, she tries to repair her relationship with a family that has grown distant from her. Christina M. Kim created the series, which airs on The CW and stars Olivia Liang.

Trivia about Kung Fu

Olivia Liang avoided martial arts before this role because of the stereotypes and would only learn them if she was paid. Later she embraced them and argued for giving depth to Asian characters with that training.

Rotten Tomatoes gives the series an approval rating of 86% based on 21 critic reviews and an average score of 6.9/10.

On May 12, 2020, The CW ordered the series, and that same day a poster featuring Olivia Liang and social media accounts was released.

Filming for the first season began on October 16, 2020 and wrapped on April 27, 2021 in Langley, British Columbia.

Warner Bros. Television tried to sell the series to other networks in case it was canceled, but failed to do so.

The premiere drew more than 3.5 million viewers when delayed viewing was included and posted the biggest total audience for a Wednesday debut on The CW since "The 100" in 2014.

The CW renewed the series for a second season on May 3, 2021 and for a third on March 22, 2022, before canceling it on May 11, 2023 after three seasons.

Ludi Lin and Bradley Gibson joined in February 2021 in recurring roles as Kerwin and Joe Harper, respectively.
