The premium supporting actor Hollywood needed

In 1949, an actor who would go on to specialize in characters with more weight than the leads was born in Boston. Paul Guilfoyle learned the craft at the Actors Studio in New York. There, he understood that acting isn't about showing off but about serving the story.

Before jumping into television fame, he shot films with the best directors of the moment. In 1997, he appeared in L.A. Confidential, and that same year he boarded Air Force One. He worked nonstop because casting directors trusted his ability to look like a tough guy or a corrupt bureaucrat. In 1992, he appeared in Hoffa under the direction of Danny DeVito.

And the bet on realism paid off.

In 2000, he accepted the role of Captain Jim Brass in CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. He had no idea he would spend fourteen seasons in Las Vegas. But the pay was good, and the character had edges that other procedurals of the era ignored. Guilfoyle gave Brass a weary cynicism that connected with millions of viewers.

It was his ticket to financial security.

Life After Las Vegas

In 2017, he joined the cast of The Good Fight. He played Henry Rindell over ten episodes and made it clear that his dramatic punch was still intact after years of commercial television. He also traveled to space in Star Trek: Discovery between 2020 and 2021, stepping into the role of an artificial intelligence called Guardian of Forever.

And the projects kept coming.

In 2021 he had a role in Don’t Look Up for Netflix. In 2024 he premiered the film Arthur the King alongside Mark Wahlberg. He also lent his voice to the animated trilogy Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths, released in 2024. His schedule remains packed with supporting roles that hold each scene together.

Paul Guilfoyle has lived in New York with his wife and daughter for decades. He still takes supporting roles that other actors would turn down for lack of screen time. In 2014, he left his regular television role after completing 317 episodes of the original Las Vegas franchise.
