Synopsis of Timeless

Timeless is a series created by Eric Kripke and Shawn Ryan for NBC, starring Abigail Spencer, Matt Lanter and Malcolm Barrett. Lucy Preston, a history professor, Wyatt Logan, a U.S. Army Special Forces sergeant, and Rufus Carlin, an engineer and programmer, are recruited by the U.S. government. Their mission is to stop Garcia Flynn, a criminal who has stolen a time machine and traveled with his team of soldiers to the hours before the Hindenburg airship disaster. The trio must follow him through different eras to thwart his plans without changing the past. Flynn, for his part, has a strange diary from another era, and his full plan remains a mystery.

Trivia about Timeless

NBC ordered the series on May 13, 2016, after lengthy negotiations to secure in-season stacking rights, which allow the network to stream all episodes of a season on its online platforms.

In November 2016, NBC ordered three more episodes and the first season was expanded to 16.

Three days after canceling the series in May 2017, NBC renewed it following negotiations with Sony Pictures Television.

The series finale earned a 90% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with an average score of 8.83/10 based on ten reviews.

For the second season, production moved filming from Vancouver to Los Angeles, which made it easier for actors and writers to work.

After the second cancellation, NBC ordered a two-hour final movie to close out the series; filming began in July 2018 and it aired in two parts in December.

The second season averaged 2.64 million viewers and an adults 18–49 demo rating of 0.61, down 43% and 45%, respectively, from the first season.

The fans' coordinated campaign did not prevent the series' final cancellation: the show went from an average of 8 million viewers at its premiere to 4.6 million with seven-day cumulative viewership.
