Synopsis of Samurai Jack

Samurai Jack is an animated series created by Genndy Tartakovsky and aired on Cartoon Network and later on Adult Swim. A young prince, whose name is never revealed, lives in a kingdom in feudal Japan. His father, the emperor, was the first to defeat Aku, a shape-shifting demon, but now Aku has taken control and holds the emperor hostage. Before this happens, the prince's mother sends him away to train around the world and return with the magic sword capable of defeating Aku. However, the young man ends up in a dystopian retrofuturistic future ruled by Aku, where the inhabitants call him "Jack." His goal is to find his way back to his own time and defeat the demon before he conquers the world.

Trivia about Samurai Jack

In 2004, Samurai Jack won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program, thanks to the episode "The Birth of Evil," as part of an awards run the series built up over the years.
Cartoon Network ordered 52 episodes, but the series stopped airing before all of them were shown. The missing episodes later aired in a special and in reruns.
The show's visual style led George Lucas to hire Genndy Tartakovsky to work on Star Wars: Clone Wars.
The series' theme song was produced by will.i.am, a member of The Black Eyed Peas.
In 2004, the British channel Channel 4 ran a poll on the 100 best cartoons, in which Samurai Jack placed 42.
Entertainment Weekly ranked Samurai Jack third on its list of the "10 Best Cartoon Network Shows" of 2012.
Genndy Tartakovsky spent 12 years trying to turn "Samurai Jack" into a movie with five different studios; after the Sony project fell apart, he proposed a miniseries, and Adult Swim approved the deal within two weeks.
For the fifth season, Tartakovsky hired Greg Baldwin to voice Aku because he wanted to keep the importance of Mako's voice, who died in 2006, without directly imitating his performance.
