Synopsis of Final Space

Gary Goodspeed is an energetic, if not very bright, astronaut serving the final days of a five-year sentence aboard the prison ship Galaxy One. He is joined by HUE, the artificial intelligence that controls the ship, and K.V.N., another crew member. One day he runs into a mysterious alien capable of destroying planets, whom he nicknames Mooncake. The two decide to embark on a mission to save the universe while trying to unravel the mystery of the "Final Space". Created by Olan Rogers, with David Sacks as showrunner, the series airs on TBS and Adult Swim, and Rogers himself voices Gary and Mooncake.

Trivia about Final Space

The idea came about in the middle of 2010, when Olan Rogers uploaded the first episode of a ten-part animated web series titled Gary Space.
In 2016, Rogers announced that his project had been renamed Final Space to avoid similarities with Steven Universe.
Rogers and Sacks offered the series to six companies, all of which wanted it, and that sparked a bidding war in which TBS won out.
The series' space backgrounds use real NASA imagery.
After failing to reach a deal to conclude the series, Rogers launched a Kickstarter campaign for the short film Godspeed, which raised $464,438.
Critics praised the cast of the first season, especially David Tennant's voice performance as the Lord Commander.
In September 2022, Warner Bros. Discovery declared "Final Space" a tax-driven write-off, which made it unavailable on television, on streaming and in new home video releases; Netflix removed it from Spain, France, Germany and Belgium in March 2024.
