Synopsis of Futurama

Futurama is an adult animated series created by Matt Groening, the creator of The Simpsons, and David X. Cohen. It airs on FOX, Comedy Central and Hulu. Set in New New York in the year 3000, it follows Philip J. Fry, an unmotivated pizza delivery boy who accidentally falls into a cryogenic pod on the last night of 1999 and is frozen for a thousand years. He wakes up on December 31, 2999, and discovers that the law assigns jobs and that he is forced to work as a delivery boy. His only surviving relative, Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth, runs Planet Express, a small interplanetary delivery company. Fry gets a job there, and the story kicks off when he starts working alongside Leela and Bender.

Trivia about Futurama

Groening began conceiving Futurama in the mid-1990s, when Fox wanted a new series from him after the success of The Simpsons.
The name Futurama comes from a pavilion at the 1939 New York World's Fair, designed by Norman Bel Geddes, which showed how he imagined the world in 1959.
Fox commissioned the episode "I, Roommate" to answer its concerns about the suicide booths, Doctor Zoidberg and Bender's antisocial behavior.
The Zapp Brannigan character was created for Phil Hartman, who insisted on auditioning for it. After Hartman's death, the role went to Billy West.
The opening title sequence was composed by Christopher Tyng, and the Beastie Boys appeared as their own heads in a remixed version for the episode "Hell Is Other Robots."
The writing team had three doctorates and seven master's degrees, and together they had more than 50 years of experience at Harvard.
The final episode of season six was animated again in three styles: black and white in the style of Fleischer, a low-resolution video game and Japanese anime.
Hulu will premiere the fourteenth season of "Futurama" on August 3, 2026, with new episodes every Monday and international distribution on Disney+.
