Synopsis of Stranger Things

In Hawkins, a small fictional town in Indiana, life in the 1980s is quiet and uneventful. Near town, the Hawkins National Laboratory claims to conduct scientific research for the U.S. Department of Energy, but in secret it experiments with the paranormal and the supernatural, sometimes using human subjects. Unknowingly, it has opened a portal to a hostile dimension called the Upside Down, whose presence begins to affect the townspeople. In November 1983, Will Byers is abducted by a creature from that world. His mother, Joyce, Police Chief Jim Hopper and a group of volunteers search for him. Meanwhile, Will's friends Mike, Dustin and Lucas find a girl with psychokinetic powers who has just escaped from the laboratory. Created by the Duffer brothers and released on Netflix, the series weaves the disappearance together with that mystery.

Trivia about Stranger Things

The series was originally called Montauk, because the story took place in Montauk, New York, and nearby towns on Long Island. The brothers later moved it to the fictional town of Hawkins.
The title came about because it sounded similar to Needful Things, another novel by Stephen King. Matt admitted that they still had many heated arguments about the final name.
The Duffer brothers pitched the story to about 15 cable networks, and all of them rejected the script, believing the child leads wouldn't work.
Winona Ryder set one condition to accept the role of Joyce: the right to take a break if a Beetlejuice sequel was made, which the Duffer brothers agreed to.
The first season was filmed mostly in Atlanta, Georgia, and the town of Jackson served as the base for the fictional town of Hawkins.
The Duffer brothers rejected the usual format of 22 episodes per season used by broadcast television. They opted for eight, because they feared they couldn't tell a cinematic story otherwise.
The franchise has spawned an animated spin-off series, Tales from '85, and a prequel stage play, The First Shadow.
