Eduardo Franco wasn't chasing fame when he was delivering pizzas in Yuma or working at a cheap movie theater. He was born in 1994 in an Arizona city on the Mexican border and grew up in a family that crossed that geographic line to work every day. His hair, more than a meter long, was not a marketing strategy. It was simply how he looked before any casting director put a contract on the table.
In 2017, he landed his first major role in American Vandal. He played Spencer Diaz and showed that his comedic timing worked best when the script was driest. The Los Angeles industry tends to typecast Latino actors as gang members or suffering immigrants. But Franco broke that pattern with a look that recalled a 1970s skater more than the usual clichés of American film.
Then the phone call came.
The movie Booksmart marked his official arrival on the radar of specialized critics in 2019. Directed by Olivia Wilde, he brought Theo to life and stole the spotlight in scenes where he had barely any lines. The actor built his early career on economy of gesture and a deep voice that contrasted with his youthful look.
In 2022, his career took a sharp turn with the fourth season of Stranger Things. His character, Argyle, was a pizza delivery guy with a very laid-back outlook on life. More than 1,350 million hours viewed were logged by the series in its first 28 days on the platform. Eduardo Franco went from being a cult actor in indie comedies to a face recognized in airports around the world.
His massive success on Netflix didn't change his career path in the industry. He appeared in 2023 in the comedy Self Reliance alongside Jake Johnson and Anna Kendrick. In that project, he once again proved that his strength lies in supporting roles that carry the plot when the lead loses direction. His screen time is often brief, but he makes a visual impact that few actors of his generation achieve effortlessly.
Naturalness is his trademark.
Beyond his on-screen image, he also found a profitable niche. Since 2021, he has voiced the character DJ Catnip in the animated series Gabby’s Dollhouse. It's a technical job that provides steady income without relying solely on his distinctive look. In a Hollywood driven by franchises, being a voice actor offers a longevity that on-screen image sometimes burns through too quickly.
In early 2024, fans sounded the alarm when the photo of the final season's cast was released for Stranger Things. Eduardo Franco did not appear in the official image. Shortly after, he confirmed in an interview that he never received a call to return as Argyle for the series finale. It was an abrupt move by the production company that left out one of the most beloved characters from the previous season.
No official explanation was given.
In 2024, he focused on smaller-scale projects and kept his profile away from unnecessary red carpets. His filmography includes titles such as The Package and The Binge, where absurd humor is the dominant note. Eduardo Franco remains an oddball in a system that demands constant aesthetic perfection. His contract with United Talent Agency is still his main backing for negotiating projects in an industry that changes its favorites every six months.
Filming for the fifth season of the Netflix hit series began in January 2024 without his presence on the Atlanta set.
