Nell Fisher

Instinct vs. Technique

Nell Fisher didn't need decades of training at elite schools to understand how a film set works. In 2023, she stepped in front of the camera in Evil Dead Rise and held her own surrounded by liters of fake blood. She was barely eleven years old when she shot that bloodbath in a Los Angeles building.

Her first professional steps took place in her native New Zealand. She appeared in the series My Life is Murder in 2022, where she began honing her ability to interact with adult actors without a trace of shyness. Casting directors soon noticed that Fisher didn't seek constant approval from monitors.

She just acted.

In 2023, she played Luisa in the interactive movie Choose Love. It was a small project compared to what came later, but it helped put her name in the databases of major American agencies. The industry was looking for child faces that didn't feel forced, and she fit that profile of total naturalness.

Moving to Hawkins

The big media breakthrough came in 2024 when her casting in the fifth season of Stranger Things was confirmed. She will play Holly Wheeler. She replaces the twins who brought the character to life in earlier installments, because the Duffer brothers were looking for an actress with real dramatic weight for the saga's conclusion.

It's a logical move.

Because filming of this final installment began in January 2024 after delays caused by the Hollywood strikes. Here, Fisher faces the heavier machinery of Netflix. The pressure is high because the ending of this story carries millions of viewers, but she already knows what it's like to work under minimal lighting and intense physical strain.

The production of the series mobilizes hundreds of crew members every day at the Atlanta studios. Fisher went from independent productions in Oceania to being part of one of the most profitable franchises in streaming history before turning fourteen.

The Forest and Elijah Wood

Before the world saw her in the finale of the sci-fi series, she starred in Bookworm in 2024. She shared the screen with Elijah Wood in an adventure filmed in New Zealand's natural landscapes. She plays Mildred, a precocious girl who searches for a mythical creature to solve her mother's financial problems.

Her chemistry with Wood was the central axis of the movie. Director Ant Timpson wanted an odd couple dynamic, and Fisher made a veteran of the industry seem, at times, like the rookie of the duo. They shot under difficult weather conditions, but she maintained consistency in every take.

And the gamble paid off.

In 2024, the production of Bookworm closed its international sales at the Marché du Film in Cannes. The film was distributed in the United States under the Vertical label and proved her ability to carry an entire story on her shoulders. The mountain scenes in the Canterbury valley were completed in just twenty days of effective production.
