Sasha Calle was born in Boston in 1995, though her identity is rooted in Colombia through heritage and experience. She spent two formative years of her childhood in the South American country before returning to the United States to focus on her training as an artist. She graduated from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy and soon learned that persistence counts for more than raw talent at auditions in Los Angeles.
Her entry into the industry didn't come by way of a prestigious festival's red carpet. In 2018, she joined the cast of The Young and the Restless to play Lola Rosales. Productions like this demand a frantic shooting pace that burns out performers who lack discipline, but she stuck it out for more than two hundred episodes. That endurance earned her a Daytime Emmy nomination in 2020.
The discipline of daily shooting was her best school.
In 2021, she received a video call from Andy Muschietti that changed the course of her career. The director told her she had been chosen to play Supergirl in The Flash. Calle cut her hair and suited up in a costume that dropped the classic skirt for a rawer look. During filming in 2022, she performed much of her own stunt work to lend the character physical authenticity.
But the release in 2023 coincided with an internal upheaval at DC Studios. The arrival of James Gunn and Peter Safran led to the dismantling of the previous cinematic universe. Although her performance was one of the most praised by specialist critics, the reboot plan left her future in the air. Because at major studios, financial decisions tend to crush individual storylines.
The industry has no memory for inherited contracts.
After the noise of the franchise films, she sought out projects with more dramatic weight and less reliance on visual effects. In 2024, she presented In the Summers at the Sundance Film Festival, where the film took home the Grand Jury Prize. In this film directed by Alessandra Lacorazza, she plays one of the sisters grappling with a complicated relationship with their father across several decades.
Independent film became her lifeline.
That strategic move kept her away from being typecast in commercial roles. She also took part in the thriller Lips Like Sugar, set in the 1980s, alongside figures such as Woody Harrelson. Filming for this production in 2024 confirmed her interest in stories where the script takes absolute priority over technical spectacle. However, her future in big-budget films still depends on the schedules of Warner Bros.'s new decision-makers.
Her departure from the superhero universe became official when the studio announced a new casting call for the role of Kara Zor-El in 2024.
