Synopsis of Fate: The Winx Saga

Bloom, a young woman raised in the human world, arrives at the magical boarding school Alfea, located in the Otherworld, a mystical and distant place where fairies have spent thousands of years learning magic arts. Her power is fire, and her impulsive nature makes her a student unlike any who have passed through the school. She shares a room with Stella, Aisha, Terra and Musa, four fairies with their own gifts who must learn to control them while living together day to day. Bloom begins to ask questions about her past and, with the help of her friends, searches for answers. Around her, rivalries, matters of the heart and monsters that threaten her existence complicate her life at the boarding school. Created by Brian Young based on the animated series Winx Club, the show airs on Netflix and stars Abigail Cowen, Hannah van der Westhuysen and Precious Mustapha.

Trivia about Fate: The Winx Saga

Iginio Straffi, creator of Winx Club, proposed a live-action version in 2011, after Viacom became a co-owner of his studio. He had previously worked as a producer on Nickelodeon's Club 57.

According to Straffi, the series is aimed at adult fans of the animated show, and in 2019 he described it as tenser and darker than you could imagine.

Brian Young decided to move away from the look of the fairies in the animated series, which have big eyes and shiny outfits, according to an interview with The Guardian.

During filming of the second season, each shot with visual effects cost around £310,000, depending on its complexity.

The series reached No. 2 on the Nielsen Streaming Charts in the week of January 25, with 918 million minutes viewed, behind only Bridgerton.

Netflix canceled the series after two seasons, and on November 1, 2022, Brian Young confirmed there would be no third installment.

The first season was watched by 57 million subscribers during its first 28 days, according to figures released by Netflix in April 2021.

The cast drew criticism for the perceived whitewashing of Musa and for replacing Flora, a Latina character in the animated series, with the new white character Terra.
