The Smurfs

The Smurfs live in a hidden village in the Middle Ages, where their mushroom-shaped houses and matching white pants and red Phrygian caps make them all look alike. Their leader is Papa Smurf, the Great Smurf, who governs the community because of his age and knowledge of magic and wears red. Their peaceful life is threatened by Gargamel, a wizard who shares his home with his cat Azrael and relentlessly tries to capture these blue creatures. His traps keep repeating because the wizard needs the Smurfs to turn metals into gold and to prepare his famous Smurf soup. Created by Peyo from his Belgian comic strips, the series aired on NBC as an animated comedy produced by Hanna-Barbera.
