Synopsis of The Orville
The series follows the crew of the U.S.S. Orville, a mid-level exploration ship of the Planetary Union, a 25th-century interstellar alliance made up of Earth and many other planets. Ed Mercer, an officer whose career stalled after his divorce, is given command of the ship, but he discovers that his ex-wife, Kelly Grayson, has been assigned as his first officer. Both must set aside their differences and work as a team alongside Gordon Malloy, Ed's best friend and the ship's pilot, and the rest of the crew. Together they take on diplomatic and exploration missions to remote planets and distant corners of the galaxy, in a future set in the year 2418. Seth MacFarlane, the series creator, plays Ed, and the show airs on Fox and Hulu.
