Synopsis of Xena: Warrior Princess

Xena is a warrior from ancient Greece with a bad reputation. She has committed crimes against innocent people and seeks redemption by using her weapons skills to protect those who cannot defend themselves alone. She is joined by Gabrielle, a naive young farm girl who is traveling for the first time and who brings balance to Xena's character. Together they journey through a world of walled villages and roads besieged by warlords and outlaw gangs, where every encounter tests Xena's past. Created by Robert Tapert and John Schulian, the series airs in the United States in syndication, starring Lucy Lawless as Xena and Renée O'Connor as her adventure companion.

Trivia about Xena: Warrior Princess

The first candidate to play Xena was British actress Vanessa Angel, but she fell ill one week before filming began, and the role went to Lucy Lawless.
Although it was filmed in New Zealand, the visual effects were produced in Burbank, California, by Flat Earth Productions Inc.
Joseph LoDuca won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Music Composition for a Dramatic Series for the episode "Fallen Angel" from the fifth season, in 2000.
Low ratings in the United States forced production in Auckland to be scaled back in October 2000, and between 150 and 200 people feared they would lose their jobs.
A spin-off series focused on Gabrielle never made it to production because Renée O'Connor turned down the proposal, believing the story wouldn't work without the relationship between the two characters.
NBC developed a reboot in 2015 with Javier Grillo-Marxuach as writer and executive producer, but dropped the project in 2017 after he left the production over creative differences.
Lucy Lawless insisted that Renée O'Connor be included in the opening credits starting with the second season, after she had not appeared in them during the first.
The series aired 134 episodes across six seasons, from 1995 to 2001.
