Synopsis of Wonder Woman

It is 1942, in the midst of World War II. American pilot Steve Trevor, played by Lyle Waggoner, is shot down in a dogfight over the Bermuda Triangle and crashes on Paradise Island, home of the Amazons. There, Princess Diana, played by Lynda Carter, tends to him until he recovers. The Amazon queen decides to organize Olympic-style games to choose a warrior who will return Trevor to the United States, but she forbids her own daughter from taking part. Diana, who is not allowed to compete, refuses to watch the trials and withdraws to the far end of the island. The series airs on ABC and was created by Stanley Ralph Ross.

Trivia about Wonder Woman

The first two regular episodes of the new series aired in April 1976, and both were directed by Barry Crane.
Among the candidates who auditioned for the lead role were Joanna Cassidy and Jaclyn Smith, who would later become a star of Charlie's Angels.
Diana's transformation into Wonder Woman through a spin was devised during the filming of the pilot, when Lynda Carter suggested having her spin around.
The first season ranked number 45 in ratings and received positive reviews.
During the first season, Wonder Woman could imitate anyone's voice, which came in handy over the phone.
ABC hesitated to renew the series because its World War II setting made production expensive; CBS picked it up for the following seasons and demanded that it be moved to the present day.
CBS canceled the series in 1979 after three seasons, partly due to declining ratings and its decision to reserve the time slot for "The Dukes of Hazzard."
