Synopsis of Russian Doll

Nadia Vulvokov is a software engineer celebrating her 36th birthday party in New York. Her friend Maxine is hosting, and the night unfolds over drinks, conversations and reunions with old acquaintances. When Nadia dies unexpectedly, she wakes up at the very moment of the party and everything starts over. Determined to figure out what's happening, she roams the city and retraces every detail of that night, until she crosses paths with Alan Zaveri, a man stuck in the exact same loop at a different event. Natasha Lyonne stars in this Netflix series created by Lyonne, Amy Poehler and Leslye Headland.

Trivia about Russian Doll

In the first season, Nadia's reset song was “Gotta Get Up” by Harry Nilsson, which played every time she died and came back to life.

For Alan's character, the reset song was Beethoven's “Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major.” The repeated use of “Gotta Get Up” took up a large part of the music budget.

Netflix secured the rights to the Nilsson song, but the cost of using it so many times took up a significant part of the music budget.

The final sequence of the second season was shot in the underground cisterns of Budapest.

In the second season, many of the train sequences were created with virtual production on a soundstage.

The first season earned a 97% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with an average score of 8.5/10 based on 98 reviews.

In interviews in 2019 and 2022, the creators said they had ideas for a third season.

"Russian Doll" received 14 Emmy nominations and won three, including the 2022 Emmy for Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Half-Hour Series.
