Synopsis of Call the Midwife

The series follows Jenny Lee, a newly qualified midwife who begins working at Nonnatus House, a nursing convent that belongs to an Anglican religious order. The setting is Poplar, an extremely poor neighborhood in London's East End during the 1950s. The sisters and midwives care for a community where between 80 and 100 babies are born each month, so their main task is ensuring safe births for the women of the neighborhood. They also carry out a wide range of nursing duties for neighbors and deal with all kinds of medical problems. The story begins in 1957, during the postwar baby boom, with poverty and the arrival of immigrants as background themes. Created by Heidi Thomas and based on the memoirs of midwife Jennifer Worth, the series airs on BBC One and stars Jessica Raine.

«In 1950's London, they delivered hope for all.»
