Synopsis of Pride and Prejudice
Charles Bingley, a wealthy man from the north of England, rents Netherfield Park, near the village of Meryton in Hertfordshire, for the autumn. Mrs. Bennet, mother of five unmarried daughters, sees the newcomer as a chance to marry one of them off and gives in to her hopes. Bingley is soon smitten with Jane, the eldest, at a local dance. His best friend, Mr. Darcy, who is rumored to be twice as rich, refuses to mix with the neighbors and keeps running into Elizabeth, the second of the sisters. Prejudice and social differences become an almost insurmountable obstacle to these couples coming together.
