Synopsis of Sherlock Holmes

In the late Victorian era, Sherlock Holmes is the world's only consulting detective. His office mainly takes private clients, from people of modest means to members of the royal family, although he also helps the police when his cases overlap with those of Inspector Lestrade. Holmes needs constant mental stimulation. When he has no case complex enough to occupy him, he falls into depression and drug use. The series, created by John Hawkesworth, airs in the United Kingdom on ITV and follows this detective, played by Jeremy Brett, as he seeks challenges that keep his mind active.

Trivia about Sherlock Holmes

To film the series, a full-size outdoor replica of Baker Street was built at Granada's studios on Quay Street in Manchester, which later became part of a tourist attraction.
Granada contacted Jeremy Brett in February 1982 to play Holmes, with the idea of making a completely authentic and faithful adaptation of the character's best cases.
The series ended because of Brett's death. He died at age 61 of a heart failure in 1995, after suffering health problems during the filming of the final seasons.
Jude Law interpretó al criado Joe Barnes en el episodio «Shoscombe Old Place» de 1991, y después fue el doctor Watson en la película de 2009.
In May 1992, Brett and Hardwicke starred in a roughly ten-minute mini-episode within The Four Oaks Mystery, which aired during the ITV Telethon 92 charity telethon.
In the United States, the episodes first aired on PBS stations as part of the Mystery! block, and the series later received co-production funding from Boston's WGBH station.
Between 2003 and 2005, BBC Two aired the complete series on Saturday afternoons, one of the few ITV productions that ended up on the BBC.
The American production company Lorindy Pictures sued Granada over the rights to Holmes and Watson, which stalled the project for more than two years until a legal settlement was reached.
