Synopsis of Las Vegas

Las Vegas follows the employees of the Montecito, a fictional hotel-casino located on the Strip in Las Vegas. Ed Deline, a strict former CIA agent, runs the casino's security with the help of Danny McCoy, a former Marine who works under him. His surveillance team monitors card cheats, investigates suspicious lucky streaks that hurt the casino, and keeps an eye on the competition so it doesn't steal customers. But the daily life of the hotel also includes the valet, the restaurant and the gaming tables, so every shift brings a new problem. Created by Gary Scott Thompson, the series airs on NBC and stars James Caan, Josh Duhamel and Molly Sims, who bring to life a staff that must protect the business while their own secrets threaten to come to light.

Trivia about Las Vegas

Filming on the pilot began in March 2003 with a budget of $5 million, making it the most expensive pilot in NBC history.

The idea came from Gary Scott Thompson's trips to Las Vegas in the late eighties. On one of them, he imagined a corpse in the desert with the Strip in the background, and that image ended up in the pilot.

Caan joined the cast at the last minute, and the role marked his first leading part in a television series.

Caan asked for his character to be rewritten, because the script kept him in a surveillance room watching camera footage for almost the entire show.

About 350 women auditioned for the role of Delinda Deline before it went to Molly Sims.

The character of Nessa was originally written as a 60-year-old man, but Thompson reworked the role for Marsha Thomason after her audition.

Culver Studios had eight Montecito sets in the early days, including a 20,000-square-foot casino.

NBC canceled the series on February 20, 2008, five days after the fifth season finale, due to declining ratings and high production costs; the decision left several storylines unresolved.
