Synopsis of Reservation Dogs

Reservation Dogs is a comedy created by Taika Waititi and Sterlin Harjo, and it streams on Hulu. It follows four Indigenous teenagers living in a small rural town in Oklahoma, within the Muscogee Nation. They call themselves the Rez Dogs and spend their days committing crimes and trying to fight them. Devery Jacobs, D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Lane Factor and Paulina Alexis lead the cast. Their friend Daniel, who dreamed of moving to California, died a year before the story begins. As they try to come to terms with that loss, the group considers whether they should make the trip to California that Daniel imagined. Each of them is carrying unresolved issues with their family and community, and all of them must sort those out before deciding whether to leave.

Trivia about Reservation Dogs

Many of the storylines are inspired by events from Sterlin Harjo's childhood. Harjo, who is from Oklahoma, led the project.

The first season was filmed in six locations across Oklahoma, including Okmulgee, Tulsa and Terlton, and filming wrapped in July 2021.

It is the first American series with Native American writers and directors, and its cast and crew are almost all Native North American.

The series won two Peabody Awards and two Independent Spirit Awards, and it was nominated for five Primetime Emmys, including Outstanding Comedy Series.

The character Elora Danan, played by Devery Jacobs, takes her name from a character called Willow.

Harjo later created The Lowdown, another FX series that was confirmed to take place in the same fictional universe as Reservation Dogs.

Devery Jacobs did not initially seem right for the role of Elora Danan, according to Sterlin Harjo, but she insisted on auditioning and reached the final callbacks in Los Angeles in February 2020.

Paulina Alexis initially auditioned for Elora Danan, but Harjo and Taika Waititi felt she was a better fit for Willie Jack, a character originally written as a man, and they rewrote the role for her.
