Kat Dennings

Katherine Victoria Litwack decided that her stage surname would be Dennings before she turned fifteen. It was a protective measure for her family. Her professional debut came in 2000 in an episode of Sex and the City, where she played a rich, obnoxious girl who hires Samantha Jones to plan her bat mitzvah.

That first appearance made it clear that naivety was not her strong suit.

The alternative to the Disney mold

In 2008, she starred in Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist alongside Michael Cera. The movie worked because Dennings projected a somewhat cynical maturity that connected with teenagers at the end of the decade. She never had to try hard to seem smart on camera.

But her massive success came through mainstream television.

The Waitress's Sarcastic Paycheck

In 2011, she accepted the role of Max Black in the sitcom 2 Broke Girls. The series ran for six seasons and ended in 2017 after 138 episodes were filmed. Dennings was paid 150,000 dollars per episode during the final stages of production.

The script played up her gift for sarcasm and quick comebacks. And although critics were not always kind to the show's crude humor, audiences responded with loyalty. Dennings managed her public image well, keeping a careful distance from the gossip press.

From Thor's desert to the reality of Westview

Her connection to the big franchises began in 2011 with the movie Thor. She played Darcy Lewis, a science student who brought the comic relief amid Norse epic drama. She reprised the role in 2013 with Thor: The Dark World before disappearing from the superhero radar for almost a decade.

In 2021, she returned to the same character for the series WandaVision.

Darcy Lewis's evolution in that Disney+ production showed a more technical, mature side of the actress. She was no longer just the funny intern. Dennings understands that supporting characters are often the ones who hold interest when the leads get too intense.

Between 2019 and 2022, she led the cast of Dollface. It was a personal bet on a surreal comedy about female friendship that ended after two seasons. Hulu canceled the series in May 2022 despite a very active fan base on social media.

In 2023, she married musician Andrew W.K. in a private ceremony at her home in Los Angeles. Dennings keeps full control over the projects she chooses and often prioritizes voice acting in animated series such as Big Mouth or Sandman.

The syndication deal for her most famous series guarantees her a steady stream of passive income.
