Enter the darkness.

Five thousand years ago, Bor, father of Odin, battles the Dark Elves on Svartalfheim, his home planet. Malekith, their leader, wants to unleash a weapon called the Aether on the Nine Realms, and Bor prevents him from getting it. In the present, Thor, Prince of Asgard, fights to restore order to the cosmos. His struggle becomes more complicated when an ancient race, led by the vengeful Malekith, returns with the intention of plunging the universe back into darkness. Thor must face an enemy that not even Odin dares to challenge. The film is directed by Alan Taylor and stars Chris Hemsworth, who brings the God of Thunder to life.

Trivia about Thor: The Dark World

Benedict Cumberbatch, who later joined the franchise as Stephen Strange, was also among the candidates considered to play Malekith in this film.
According to Disney's accounts from 2016, the budget spent was 237.6 million dollars, although 37 million was offset by payments from a British tax authority.
Taylor explained that Joss Whedon, director and writer of The Avengers, rewrote several scenes during post-production, when new sequences were added.
Carter Burwell was hired to compose the score, but in May 2013 he left the project over creative differences, and Marvel brought in Brian Tyler to replace him.
