The sharp eye behind great hits

Margarita Ibrahimoff was born in Los Angeles and grew up in a home where Bulgarian and Greek were spoken. Her first paycheck came from an episode of The Brady Bunch in 1972.

The truth is that her career can't be explained without her ability to spot other people's stories before anyone else. Wilson is the quiet architect behind other people's successes.

In 2002, she convinced her husband to finance a stage play that nobody wanted to bring to the big screen. That film was My Big Fat Greek Wedding, and its financial success was a scandal for the independent film industry.

She turned a 5 million dollar budget into 368 million in worldwide box office receipts.

But her work behind the scenes didn't stop there. She repeated the move in 2008 with the adaptation of Mamma Mia!, because she understood perfectly what audiences wanted in theaters. That production ended up grossing more than $600 million.

The performer who never stopped singing

In 1993, she played Meg Ryan's best friend in Sleepless in Seattle. It was a supporting role, but a key one in establishing her image in the romantic comedies of the era.

Before filming, she reads the script to find the character's truth. In 1996 she took part in That Thing You Do!, and in 1999 she worked on Runaway Bride alongside Julia Roberts.

Music was not the whim of a bored star.

In 2012, she released her first studio album, AM/FM. It featured covers of classics from the 60s and 70s that she listened to as a child (her father was a Bulgarian immigrant who worked at a racetrack). So she decided her voice deserved a space of its own beyond the film sets.

She wrote her own music for the first time in 2016 for her self-titled album. That allowed her to perform at the Stagecoach Festival and open concerts for bands like Chicago.

Executive producing and maturity

In 2019, she received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. That same year, she overcame breast cancer, which forced her to step away from the spotlight for several months. But she soon returned to creative work.

Wilson has never stopped looking for projects that bring families together. In 2022, she produced A Man Called Otto, where she also played a supporting role and composed the film's main theme for the soundtrack.

And the bet paid off at the box office once again.

In 2023, she was part of the ensemble cast of Asteroid City under the direction of Wes Anderson. Filming for this production took place mostly in Chinchón (Madrid). The film had an estimated budget of $25 million.
