Synopsis of Coupling

Six friends in their thirties live in London, and their love lives drive the series. Steve and Susan are a couple, and orbiting around them are their best friends and their most recent exes, including Patrick, Sally, Oliver and Jane. Dates, hookups and misadventures of these celebrities shape the day-to-day of this comedy, which follows how each of them searches for their place in love and the choices they make in their romantic lives. What sets it apart is its storytelling: the three women and three men often recount the same events separately, but describe them in completely different terms. Steven Moffat created this British sitcom, which aired on BBC Two and starred Jack Davenport and Gina Bellman.

Trivia about Coupling

Moffat drew inspiration from his relationship with producer Sue Vertue, to the point that both of them lent their names to two of the characters.
NBC's American version premiered on September 25, 2003 and was pulled after airing four episodes, with six of the thirteen filmed episodes never aired.
Despite some criticism, all of the laughter on Coupling came from a live studio audience, although it was sometimes enhanced in editing.
Rehearsals took place in a parish hall on Kensington High Street, because British comedies could rarely afford a studio set for the entire production.
A nearby Thai restaurant complained that the filming was hurting its business, so from the second season on, the exterior scenes were shot on a street next to Tottenham Court Road.
Mari Wilson performed "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps" for the show's opening and closing credits.
Richard Coyle left the series before the fourth season, fearing he would be typecast as Jeff. The BBC approved a fifth season, but the creative team decided not to continue.
"Coupling" won the Silver Rose for Best British Comedy at the 2001 Rose d'Or festival and took the Best TV Comedy award at the 2003 British Comedy Awards.
