At the Persian border, on the outskirts of the holy city of Alamut, Prince Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal) listens along with the other princes as Nizam, the king's brother, presents the evidence. According to that evidence, Persia's enemies are manufacturing weapons. Dastan wasn't born into the court. As a boy, he lived on the streets of Persia, and King Sharaman adopted him after he proved his courage. Fifteen years later, he is one of the princes. After the evidence is presented, Tus, the king's biological son, orders the Persian army to take Alamut. Directed by Mike Newell, the movie opens with a military decision already in motion.
