Synopsis of Wonder Man

Simon Williams is a struggling actor who aims for the lead role in the remake of a superhero movie within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He has superpowers but hides them, because the Gatekeeper Clause bans people with superhuman abilities from working in the fictional version of Hollywood. Trevor Slattery, a failed performer who returns to town in search of a second chance, also wants that role. The two form an unexpected friendship as they try to land a spot in the new version of Wonder Man. The story takes place in Los Angeles. The series was created by Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest, airs on Disney+, and stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley.

«He was born to play this role, but the spotlight reveals everything.»

Trivia about Wonder Man

Before becoming a formal project, the idea had a mock poster titled Trevor Goes to Hollywood, which producer Jonathan Schwartz commissioned from the art department.

Kevin Feige wanted to flip the comic book background: instead of a industrialist with superpowers who turns out to be an actor, the character would be an actor with superpowers.

Nathan Fillion first appeared on movie posters as Simon Williams, in a deleted scene from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017).

Josh Gad recorded dialogue of himself living inside DeMarr, originally planned for the end credits, though it was ultimately not used.

The costume designer was Joy Cretton, sister of Destin Daniel Cretton, who wanted most of the outfits to be realistic.

More than 75 locations in Los Angeles were needed for scenes and establishing shots, and production designers Cindy Chao and Michele Yu were in charge of managing them.

The Doorman episode was shot in black and white. Ponsoldt wanted it to feel like a fairy tale from old Hollywood, inspired by Frank Capra, Howard Hawks and Billy Wilder.

The series was renewed for a second season in March 2026, but was canceled that July.
