Synopsis of Deception

Cameron Black is a Las Vegas illusionist, a magic star whose career falls apart after a scandal. To try to rebuild it, he takes an unusual job: he becomes the world's first "consulting illusionist" and works with the FBI to solve strange crimes. There he meets Special Agent Kay Daniels, a demanding professional who distrusts a magician's methods and must learn to work with him. Black is supported by his team, made up of Dina Clark, his producer and makeup artist, and Jordan Kwon, a street magician. Together they try to apply their knowledge of illusion to cases that don't fit any file. The series, created by Chris Fedak, airs on ABC and stars Jack Cutmore-Scott.

Trivia about Deception

In France, under the title "Cameron Black: l'illusionniste," the series became a ratings hit and the number one show in its time slot.

In Germany, after airing only 7 episodes, Deception had already broken audience records.

At the E! TVScoopAwards, the series won three awards, including Worst Surprise, Breakout Actor for Jack Cutmore-Scott and Best New Series of the 2017/18 season.

The project was developed together with magician David Kwong and Chris Fedak, before ABC committed to producing a pilot.

Vinnie Jones plays Gunter Gastafsen, presented as the "greatest illusion builder in the world."

ABC canceled the series on May 11, 2018, after a single season.

Chris Fedak said Jack Cutmore-Scott stood out right away at the audition for Cameron Black, while the rest of the cast also had to audition before being chosen.

After the cancellation, Fedak explained that the second season would have included ambitious plans, although the series had already completed its planned 13 episodes and no new episodes would be produced.
