Andrew Largeman is a struggling actor who works as a waiter while trying to make his way in his profession. One morning he wakes from a dream in which he calmly sits on a plane that crashes. He is jolted out of bed by a message on his father's answering machine, asking him to come home because his mother has died. Andrew returns to New Jersey, the state where he grew up, after years away. Directed and starred in by Zach Braff, the film follows his first days back, when he must reconnect with his family and with a place he had left behind. Between funeral preparations and encounters with old acquaintances, Andrew begins to find his way around the town that saw him grow up.
