Scott Adsit isn't the type who seeks the spotlight. In the nineties, he worked the stages of Chicago with a confidence that only comes from pure improv training. He was part of that generation of The Second City that saw comedy as an exercise in endurance rather than a fast track to fame.
There he crossed paths with Tina Fey, and that professional connection ended up shaping much of his later career. In 1994 he won the Joseph Jefferson Award for his stage work. But mainstream recognition would take another decade to arrive, while he picked up brief appearances on shows like The Dana Carvey Show and Mr. Show with Bob and David.
His style was always dry and restrained.
In 2001, he appeared in the film Lovely and Amazing and began to pop up in bigger productions in Los Angeles. But Adsit never lost that everyday-guy air of someone about to have a nervous breakdown. That energy is precisely what convinced NBC producers to give him his big TV break.
Television gave him the role of a lifetime in 2006 with the premiere of 30 Rock. Playing Pete Hornberger required a strange mix of pathos and common sense. He was the only character who seemed to understand the absurdity of his surroundings (the world of corporate television) but lacked the strength needed to escape it.
Directed 138 episodes of the series created by Fey. That character let him explore a comedic side built on everyday defeat. Because Adsit knows the most honest laughter comes from resignation, not from the spoon-fed joke. Audiences connected with that producer worn down by baldness and marital crises.
And the gamble paid off.
During the show's run, he juggled his work on set with creating content for Adult Swim. He wrote and produced several episodes of the cult series Moral Orel. That stop-motion animated project was dark and twisted, reflecting his interest in storytelling that moves away from the conventional.
In 2014 his career took a different turn when Disney called him to voice Baymax in Big Hero 6. It was not a conventional voice job, because he had to convey tenderness through an artificial intelligence programmed to heal. The film grossed more than $650 million worldwide and won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.
The success of that inflatable robot kept him tied to the franchise for a long time. He took part in Big Hero 6: The Series between 2017 and 2021, and also in the Baymax! shorts released in 2022. But directors seeking immediate on-screen reliability kept calling for his physical presence.
She still lives in New York.
In 2020 he joined the cast of The Walking Dead: World Beyond, playing Tony Babbitt. It was a shift toward post-apocalyptic drama that he handled without fuss. His name then started appearing in period productions like The Gilded Age in 2023, where he showed that his theater training lets him adapt to much more rigid dialogue.
In 2024 he worked on the film Nightbitch alongside Amy Adams. His ability to carry scenes opposite top-tier stars is what lets him keep landing contracts without big advertising campaigns. In 2025, his schedule included work on voice-over projects for video games and low-budget animated series.
The syndication deal for his older series guarantees him a financial stability that many actors of his generation envy. The net figure of his earnings from likeness rights for Baymax has never been made public.
