Synopsis of Parks and Recreation

Parks and Recreation follows Leslie Knope, deputy director of the Parks and Recreation Department in the fictional town of Pawnee, Indiana. Leslie is an enthusiastic public servant who refuses to let politics dim her optimism. Ann Perkins, a nurse, lives next to an abandoned construction pit and demands that it be filled in after her boyfriend, Andy Dwyer, falls into it and breaks both legs. Leslie promises to turn the pit into a park, but the department director, Ron Swanson, an anti-government libertarian, resists the project. The series, created by Greg Daniels and Michael Schur, airs on NBC and stars Amy Poehler.

Trivia about Parks and Recreation

Shortly after Ben Silverman was named co-chairman of NBC's entertainment division in 2007, he asked Greg Daniels to create a spin-off of The Office.

Before settling on the title Parks and Recreation, Public Service was considered, but it was dropped because network executives didn't want to be accused of mocking the idea.

Chris Pratt was supposed to be a guest star, with Andy Dwyer planned only for the first season, but the producers promoted him to a regular cast member starting in the second.

Nick Offerman auditioned for the role of Michael Scott on The Office, which ended up going to Steve Carell.

Megan Mullally, real-life wife of Nick Offerman, played Tammy, Ron Swanson's second ex-wife.

In 2013, the series won the Television Critics Association Award for Outstanding Achievement in Comedy after receiving four consecutive nominations in that category.

The series received two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series, six nominations for Amy Poehler, and a Golden Globe for Leslie Knope's performance.

NBC came close to canceling the series during its run, but the network's president changed his mind and ordered it kept on the air.
