Synopsis of Mr. & Mrs. Smith

Mr. & Mrs. Smith follows two strangers who separately accept jobs as secret agents for a mysterious organization. Their initial mission is to pose as a married couple, using the fictitious names John and Jane Smith, and live undercover as if they were one. Instructions always arrive via text messages from an anonymous source, so neither of them knows for certain who is giving the orders. As the assignments pile up, their espionage skills and the budding relationship between them are put to a tough test. The series, created by Francesca Sloane and Donald Glover, streams on Prime Video and stars Glover and Maya Erskine.

Trivia about Mr. & Mrs. Smith

Ahead of the premiere, the promotion included guerrilla marketing stunts, such as stealing a pair of shoes from an art exhibit on January 19, 2024, just after the lights went out.

Beverly Glover, Donald Glover's real-life mother, made her acting debut playing Denise, John Smith's mother.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge left the project in September 2021 over creative differences with Glover, and in April 2022 it was reported that Maya Erskine would take over the role.

In February 2024, Prime Video announced that the series had become one of its five biggest series premieres of all time in total U.S. viewership.

The first season earned 16 Primetime Emmy nominations, including one for Outstanding Drama Series.

Prime Video renewed "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" for a second season on May 14, 2024, but did not confirm at the time whether Donald Glover and Maya Erskine would return, as the show was reportedly considering following a different pair of spies.

The second season has been put on indefinite hold due to casting issues, while production was planning to start pre-production at the end of 2025 and shoot during 2026.
