Eiza González landed in Los Angeles in 2013 with one suitcase and English that still needed polishing. She wasn't looking for an easy transition. She wanted to break free from the soap opera stereotype that made her a teen phenomenon in Mexico City years earlier.
In 2014, Robert Rodriguez gave her the role of Santanico Pandemonium in the series From Dusk till Dawn. It was a risky bet, since it meant reviving a character that Salma Hayek had made iconic in the 1990s. But González avoided imitation and built a colder, more lethal version.
And the risk was worth it.
The leap to the big screen was neither immediate nor easy. She spent months at auditions where her origins weighed more than her acting ability. In 2017, the release of Baby Driver radically changed her situation. Edgar Wright gave her the role of Darling and placed her at the center of one of the most acclaimed films of that period. The film grossed more than $226 million and international critics began to take her name seriously.
In 2019, she took part in blockbusters such as Alita: Battle Angel and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. These projects brought her massive global visibility but also typecast her as a tough, take-no-prisoners woman. She knew her physique could be a tool or a trap in an industry that chews through similar profiles every season.
Because Hollywood tends to quickly pigeonhole anyone who handles on-screen tension well.
In 2020, she starred in I Care a Lot, a dark comedy thriller in which she played Fran. It was a necessary turning point. Her acting duel with Rosamund Pike proved she could carry dense dialogue scenes without relying on action sequences. That film was what really opened the doors of major directors' offices in California.
During 2021, she was part of the cast of Godzilla vs. Kong, a production that grossed over 470 million dollars worldwide despite the restrictions of the era. But her interests were already shifting toward managing her own career through executive producing.
In 2024, she starred in 3 Body Problem for Netflix, the series from the creators of Game of Thrones. She played Auggie Salazar, a nanotechnology expert caught in an existential and scientific crisis. The shoot in the UK was one of the longest of her career and demanded a restraint in her dramatic work that she had not explored in her previous roles.
González decided to launch her own production company to develop stories that move away from clichés about Latino identity.
In 2024, she also premiered The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare under the direction of Guy Ritchie. This collaboration was quickly repeated in 2025 with the shoot of In the Grey, where she shares the bill with Henry Cavill. Her current strategy avoids long-term contracts with superhero franchises so she can keep the freedom to choose directors with a strong aesthetic vision.
Production of Fountain of Youth wrapped up its shooting schedule in 2025 with a production budget of more than $150 million.
