Madison Davenport premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2024 with a psychological horror project under her arm. It’s What’s Inside confirmed that the girl from San Antonio no longer needed big family franchises to carry a story. She was born in 1996, and before turning ten she was already standing in front of a professional camera.
Her first major paycheck came with Save Me in 2007. But the real learning happened on independent shoots back in her home state. There, the actress learned that the industry rarely waits for anyone.
In 2008, she voiced one of the characters in the American version of Ponyo. It was a technical, no-frills job that helped fund her next moves to Los Angeles. Davenport never sought the role of the perfect girl next door or the approval of youth studios.
She preferred the fringes.
When she joined the series Shameless in 2011, she played Ethel. She was a teenager escaping a polygamous cult with a baby in tow. It was a raw role that broke her image as a child actress without any tabloid scandal. That contract lasted just nine episodes, but it was enough to get casting directors to update her profile.
Robert Rodriguez cast her in 2014 for the television reboot of From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series. Over three seasons, she carried the dramatic weight of a plot filled with blood and practical effects. Davenport shot much of her material on exhausting night sets where the production pace was frantic.
That experience gave her the toughness she needed to survive Hollywood's demands.
In 2015, she shared the screen with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler in the comedy Sisters. She earned a significantly smaller salary than the lead actresses, but she stole several scenes with dry, sharp humor. The clash between horror and comedy became her usual comfort zone.
2018 brought the chance to work with HBO. In the miniseries Sharp Objects, she played Ashley Wheeler. Sharing the set with Amy Adams demanded a level of restraint the actress had not explored until then. And the bet paid off, because her name began to surface in the offices of streaming platforms.
Science fiction entered her résumé in 2019 thanks to Black Mirror. The episode titled Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too put her face to face with Miley Cyrus in a scathing critique of the pop industry. Filming took place in Cape Town under absolute secrecy, which prevented the actors from discussing the script even with their families.
But the industry tends to be cyclical.
Davenport returned to disaster movies in 2023 with Supercell. In this production, she played Allie and had to shoot real action scenes with giant fans and artificial rain. The film's budget exceeded 15 million dollars not counting the costs of international distribution.
In 2024, her role in It’s What’s Inside allowed her to explore the body-swap subgenre. The script required actors to mimic their co-stars' mannerisms during weeks of rehearsals. After its run at Park City, the film was sold to Netflix for $17 million.
The distribution contract included confidentiality clauses that prohibited leaking the original ending of the shoot.
